CAN FORGIVE, CANNOT FORGET?

“Forgive and forget” has become a common parlance. It is also often said that God forgives and forgets, that He forgives and remembers our sins no more (Isaiah43:25; Hebrews 8:12 ) – wipes them off the records in His memory. It is also common for people to say, “forget it” or ”try to forget it”. What is really possible? Is it really possible to forgive? When the offender does not ask for forgiveness? When the offence is so grievous it is regarded as “too much”? Can one ever willfully forget offences against one – especially when the offence leaves a reminder in one form or another? Certainly, there is a general agreement that it is possible to forgive. Forgive? The word “Forgive” means "to excuse (a wrong or a wrongdoer); to pardon; to remit or cancel (a debt); to show or grant pardon", according to the New Lexicon Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language. It is obvious that the readiness of one to excuse or pardon or grant pardon is a function of the g...

HYPOCHONDRIASIS: Stealing Life from Youth

It is a common comment that “too much of everything is bad”. This tends to support the one who said, "virtue lies in the middle”. Is it then ironical that when one takes too much care of his health he runs into health problems? What has been definitely observed is that there are people like us who do not have so much time to devote to taking care of their health and are sometimes termed “careless” but do not fall sick very often, while there are others who have so much time and spend so much time on taking care of their health but fall sick very often. In fact, some of the second group always have one problem or another to contend with almost on a daily basis and can progressively get so bad as to lose the joy of living, and even lose their lives prematurely.   Actually, the vital contrast in the lives of these two groups of people is that the latter care too much and get into trouble while the former are not too uncaring and would have also gotten into trouble if they ...

Reincarnation - Spirit of the Belief in Our Clime

REINCARNATION: SPIRIT OF THE BELIEF IN OUR CLIME   “Reincarnation” connotes coming back to life, of the same person that had died. It means “Re-embodiment”. He comes back to earth, having taken another body, and is no more present in the spirit world. Whether, or not, this is possible, has been a subject of interesting debate in several quarters.    Some religions and persons believe in reincarnation as explained above, and some members of some esoteric organizations even talk about their personal experiences of coming and going, and claim to remember their past incarnations. I wonder why only those few of them remember past incarnations. If what they claim is true then it means that God wants only insignificant few to know what they know and not the generality of humanity. Most of us, therefore, are not expected to believe, having got no basis to believe.   Christianity does not admit the existence of reincarnation. There is no evidence in Scripture an...
